Important Health Information

Dear FGCS Families:

The Oregon Department of Human Services has asked all schools to provide information to parents about the swine flu virus that we all have been hearing about in news reports recently. Today we sent home a letter and a fact sheet with your student. This information is also available on our web site. Please follow the link on our home page at www.fgcschool.org.

While the news is full of stories about swine flu, here at FGCS several students and staff members have been diagnosed with strep throat. We are regularly disinfecting tables, door handles and othe surfaces as well as reminding students to wash their hands, sneeze into their sleeves (not their hands) and take other commonsense precautions.

Please help us prevent the spread of this and other illnesses by following these District health guidelines: Keep your children at home when they have symptoms such as fever, vomiting or sore throat. Children should be symptom-free for at least 24 hours before they return to school. If they have been diagnosed with strep throat or another infection, they should not return to school until they have been on antibiotics for at least 48 hours and fever has subsided.

When children return to school too soon, they are often unable to engage in schoolwork and they run the risk of infecting others.
Thank you for your help in keeping our students and staff healthy.
