News and reminders for the week of May 10:

-PIZZA ORDERS NOW DUE MONDAY: To accommodate our pizza volunteer's schedule, please turn in Pizza Wednesday orders with payment by the end of the day Monday. Orders placed in the box on Tuesday cannot be included in Wednesday's order. Forms are available at school or on the Documents page of the website at http://www.fgcschool.org/. Please Note: Weds., June 3rd will be our last Pizza Day for the school year. Thanks to all the volunteers who have helped this year counting money, placing order and serving pizza along with their Level 3 student helpers.

-SEEKING SUSTAINABLE GARDENS: In collaboration with the Self Directed Learning class led by Robin Lindsley and Steve O'Day, Level 4 biology teacher Rochell Auran would like to take her students on a tour of sustainable gardens in Forest Grove. She is looking for gardens that have chickens, bees, a victory garden, a butterfly garden, native plants, fruit trees or anything else that the residents have done to make their city lots more sustainable. If you have a sustainable garden (in progress is fine) that you would like to share and it is within walking distance of FGCS, please contact Rochelle at r.auran@fgcschool.org or leave a phone message for her at 503-359-4600. You do not need to be home at the time of our visit, but students and teachers would welcome talking to the gardeners if they are available. The tour is planned for 10:30 a.m.-noon Weds., June 3rd.

-BOOK FAIR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Please help us make the spring book fair a big success - contact Misty Lewis at semile@verizon.net to volunteer for a shift the week of May 18. Volunteers are needed:
Mon., 5/18: 2:30 - 4:15 pm
Tues., 5/19: 8:15 - 9:15 am, 2:30 - 4:00 pm
Weds., 5/20: 8:15 - 9:15 am, 2:30 - 4:15 pm

-SPRING WEATHER IS HERE: The one thing certain about spring in Oregon is that the weather is unpredictable. Please help your children be prepared for unexpected changes by making sure they come to school every day with a waterproof jacket, school-appropriate footwear (the kind that withstands puddles and mud) and layers to stay warm.

-CHARTER SCHOOL SURVEYS DUE 5/15: Please take a few minutes to fill out the state's survey of parents with children in public charter schools. This survey is different from the one we asked you to complete earlier in the year as part of our strategic planning process. The state survey can be found at http://www.ode.state.or.us/surveys/template.aspx?sid=315 . All public charter schools are required to make this survey available to parents.

-CALENDAR NOTES There is no school Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day) or Friday, June 5 (grading day). The last day of school is Thursday, June 11 - all students will dismiss at 1:05 p.m. Watch for information coming home soon about our end-of-the-year Bridging Ceremony and Field Day.
