Book Fair Next Week

Be sure to visit the Scholastics Book Fair at FGCS next week. Sponsored by the FGCS Parent-Teacher Organization, the book fair will be open 8 to 9:15 a.m. and 2:45-4 p.m. Mon.-Thurs. (Oct. 12-15) and 8 to 9:15 a.m. and 12:15-2:30 p.m. Fri. ( Oct. 16). Book fairs are a great way to build your home libraries, purchase books to contribute to classroom libraries and shop for birthday and holiday gifts. A portion of sales benefits FGCS and enables us to purchase books for classrooms. Please come see what the fair has to offer! Thanks to all who signed up to help out at the book fair. This SOLV Clean & Green Event will launch work on our new school garden/outdoor classroom. Volunteers are needed to build raised beds, pull out old shrubs, spread leaves and more. Oct. 8 and Fri., Oct. 9 because of parent-teacher conferences. Please
stop by the school office or call 503-359-4600 to schedule a time for
you and your students to meet with their classroom or advisory
teachers.

Garden Work Party Oct. 10

Help break ground on the new FGCS school garden at a SOLV-sponsored work party 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sat., Oct. 10. Volunteers are needed to pull out old shrubs, dig post holes, set posts in concrete, bolt boards for raised beds, spread leaves and move soil. Bring garden gloves and, if you can, shovels, wheelbarrows and post hole diggers. Snacks will be provided. The garden site is located just one-half block from school on Main St. just south of 19th Ave. on property generously donated for our use by Woodfold-Marco Manufacturing Inc. Our goal is to develop a learning garden and outdoor classroom. Please come help us get started! Dear FGCS Families - Please help us maintain good relations with our
downtown neighbors and keep our children safe by observing the
following rules for visiting FGCS, picking up and dropping off your
students.

-Do not park in the Bank of the West parking lot east of the main
school building (next to the little green house). This is a private
lot reserved for bank customers only; your vehicle will be towed.

-Please park only in marked spots on the street or in free city
parking lots downtown. Please do not double park or block driveways.

-If your children self-release, please regularly review safe
practices. We cannot supervise students after they leave FGCS property
but we sometimes hear reports about children crossing against traffic,
stepping into traffic without looking, failing to obey traffic signals
and otherwise behaving unsafely. Please make sure your children are
mature enough to handle the responsibility of leaving school on their
own.

-Bikes, skateboards, long boards and scooters: All these wheeled
devices are welcome forms of transportation at FGCS, but we ask that
you make sure your children follow these rules and precautions:
--Students must walk with their bikes/scooters and carry their
boards on FGCS property - no exceptions. Students who ride on school
property are subject to disciplinary action, including losing the
privilege of bringing their vehicles to school.
--We strongly advise you to make sure your students lock their
bikes, boards and scooters at school. We cannot guarantee the security
of anything left unlocked on school property.
--Be aware that it is a violation of city code to ride any wheeled
device, including bikes, scooters and boards, on sidewalks in downtown
Forest Grove. Violators can be ticketed by local police. Students are
advised to walk their bikes, boards and scooters until they are
outside the downtown area.

Reminder: Sign Up for Conferences

A reminder that student goal-setting conferences are scheduled for next week - Thurs., Oct. 8 and Fri., Oct. 9. There is no school for students on these days, but students are expected to attend conferences with their parents/guardians. Conferences will center on student goals and personal learning plans for the year ahead. Parents/guardians should call 503-359-4600 or stop by the school office to schedule a conference with their students' classroom teacher (Levels 1-2) or advisory teacher (Level 3-4). Conferences will be scheduled in half-hour sessions during these times: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday 4-8 p.m. Thursday 8-11 a.m. Friday Noon-2 p.m. Friday See you at conferences next week!
