CATCH THE WIND: HANDS-ON MATH AND SCIENCE
Students will learn and apply math, science and engineering skills as they design and build their own wind-catching devices. On the last day of class, students will search out other examples of math and engineering at work in the community to take pictures and generate ideas for future workshops.
Teacher: Tina Johnston, math/science master teacher and FGCS parent
Hours: 9 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Class Fee: $15
Ages: Students entering 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade in September
Maximum class size: 15
CUT-PAPER ART
Learn to make pop-ups and other decorative cards. Students must be able to safely handle razor blades used for cutting heavy paper.

Hours: 10:30-noon

Ages: 12 and older*
Class Fee: $40

FIBERS, FASHION AND FUN
Do you love working with your hands, making a mess and transforming things from plain to snazzy? Join this class and investigate techniques that allow you to turn fabric into works of art. Projects may include exploring fabric surface design techniques such as shibori fabric dying, silk painting and found object printing. We will also transform existing clothing into your own personal fashion statement.

ORIGAMI
This class will explore the art of Japanese paper folding. Students will learn basic and advanced folds as well as the history and culture related to origami.
Teacher: Charlie Graham, FGCS Level 2 teacher
Hours: 9-10 a.m.
Session: July 13-17, 2009
Ages: Entering 4th grade and older*
Class Fee: $25 payable to FGCS.
Materials Fee: $7 payable to Charlie Graham
OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
*This class will offer a different mini-adventure every day that may include indoor rock climbing, hiking/nature walks, Frisbee golf, canoeing and more. Final day will feature a 'Great Adventure Race' around Forest Grove with a variety of fun outdoor activities.
Teacher: Laura Harley, FGCS Americorps member and experienced outdoor educator
Hours: 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Mon.-Fri.
Session I: July 6-10 for Level 2 students (entering 4th, 5th and 6th grades) students*
Session II: July 20-24 for Level 3 students (entering 7th and 8th grades)*
Cost: $50/student/session

TENNIS
Learn the basics or improve your game while getting exercise and having fun out on the courts.
Teacher: Rick Boudreau, FGCS physical activity teacher and competitive tennis player

Class Fee: $50 - Students must bring their own tennis racket and wear tennis shoes to class.
UKRAINIAN EGG DECORATING
Learn the Eastern European art of pysanky to create beautiful, multicolored decorative eggs in this three-day workshop. Note: This class involves working with raw eggs, permanent dyes and candles.

Hours: 9-11 a.m.
Session: Mon., July 20, Tues., July 21 and Weds., July 22 ONLY
Ages: 12 and older*
Class Fee: $30/student payable to FGCS.

WILDERNESS AND OUTDOOR SKILLS
Students will learn wilderness and outdoor skills such as building shelters (debris huts, tarps, tents), making natural cordage knots, packing for camping and backpacking trips, cooking, building fires (with and without matches), purifying water, using a map and compass.
Hours: 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Session: July 13 to 17
