Dear FGCS Families:

We're writing to let you know that we have decided to leave our
drive-through lane closed permanently. With our new modular buildings,
students are passing across the traffic lane throughout the day,
including at release times. After looking at several alternatives and
consulting with the city and our insurance agent, we decided that the
current system provides the safest option. In addition, closing the
lane offers the possibility of providing some hardscape play area and
a courtyard area for student learning and play (stay tuned for
details).

Student pick up and drop off will continue in the same way we have
done it this school year: Please park nearby on the street or in city
parking lots and walk to school to drop off or pick up your child.
City parking lots are located on 19th Ave. behind the Hello Market
(south of the FGCS play yard) and between Pacific and 21st Ave.,
behind the Forest Theater across from FGCS. Please do NOT park in the
bank parking lot next door or other business lots nearby. Your car may
be towed and our downtown business neighbors will not be happy with
us.

Some parents have asked whether they may drop their students off at
the curb and let them walk to school on their own or whether they may
arrange to meet their students at the library or elsewhere downtown.
The answer is that parents are free to make whatever transportation
arrangements they think appropriate for their students, BUT please
notify the classroom teacher and the office in writing of any changes.
In particular, you must notify the office in writing if your child has
permission to self release at the end of the day.

If you have questions, concerns or suggestions, please contact Karen
Torry at k.torry@fgcschool.org or 503-359-4600.
